Nawton is a small village found along side the A170 Thirsk to Scarborough Road, some 3 miles East of Helmsley. It relies heavily on Helmsley as well as its other neighbouring market town of Kirkbymoorside for everyday services, shops and their weekly street markets. It does however have a village pub, eateries and both infant and junior schools; the latter (Ryedale School) being particularly well respected. Nawton is 15 miles away from its nearest train station at Malton which links with the Intercity (London to Edinburgh) service at York.
